Refining is the process of separating gold and silver from the other metals they contain and bringing them to the required fineness. At GMR Genç Metal Rafineri, we process precious metals of varying fineness and recover gold and silver fit for reuse in production and for investment products.

The process begins with weighing the material received and determining its content. Guided by the assay results, the metal taken into refining is checked again after purification and prepared for the next stage of production. At our facility, with an annual processing capacity of 100 tonnes, we track weight and assay records through our integrated systems from intake to the end of processing.

Our melting and casting service brings together gold and silver in different forms and makes them ready for further processing. The metal is melted at a controlled temperature and homogenised, then cast into moulds suited to its intended use. This step is fundamental in preparing material for assaying and for reshaping.

The starting weight of the material taken into processing and the weight of the metal obtained after casting are both recorded. Residues produced during processing are also included in material tracking, so the stages and quantity movements of the precious metal received can be followed throughout.

We have an in-house assay office authorised by the General Directorate of the Turkish Mint and Stamp Printing House. By determining the fineness and metal content of gold and silver samples, we carry out the assays on which a material’s commercial value and the processes to be applied are based.

Our laboratory work also covers checks at different stages of production. Before refining, the content of the material is determined; after processing, we check whether the target fineness has been reached. Assay results are reviewed together with the records of the material concerned and used in production and quality control.

We produce gram and bar products in a range of weights, in gold at 995 and 999.9 and in silver at 999 and 999.9 fineness. In production for investment and commercial use, a product’s weight, fineness, dimensions and surface quality are assessed together. Once cast or minted, products go through final checks before marking and packaging.

At GMR, production runs in consecutive stages, from preparing the metal to packaging it. Weighing, forming, minting and packaging are all recorded within the same production tracking. Through our KMTS integration, product recording and traceability are managed as part of the same structure.

Jewellery at the end of its life, broken or old gold items and gold left over from production can be put to use again thanks to the precious metal they contain. Through our scrap gold recovery service, we process these materials and return the gold they contain to production and to the economy.

Scrap gold received is weighed and recorded; melting and assaying then determine the amount of fine gold it contains. The gold is separated from other metals by refining and made ready for use in new products. Tracking the process through weight and assay records makes it possible to determine the amount of gold recovered and keeps the work transparent.
